Saddle up for a celebration of art and the American West! Join the Ogden Arts Festival for a Western Themed Paint Out, where artists take to the streets, fields, and frontier views to capture the spirit of the West in real time. Sponsored by Ogden Pioneer Days and the Eccles Art Center, this lively plein air event invites painters to showcase cowboy culture, rugged landscapes, and pioneer heritage. Watch creativity come alive under the open sky!
Ogden Arts Festival's "Traces of the West PAINT OUT" is open to all regional artists. Original works painted between July 14th and 19th, 2025, are eligible. Participating artists will provide their own surfaces, which must be stamped before beginning the work. Stamping serves as contest verification when the surface is returned. Maximum surface size is 24” x 36”
STAMPING BEGINS: Monday, July 14, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.
RETURN DEADLINE: Saturday, July 19, 2025, by 1:00 p.m. at the Eccles Art Center's Booth at the Ogden Arts Festival (Union Station)
COMPETITION GUIDELINES:
- The competition is open to all artists who presently reside in the state of Utah
- Artists may enter up to two pieces, but may have as many surfaces stamped as they would like.
- Original works in any medium, including paintings, drawings, or mixed media.
- Size limitations: Maximum surface size is 24” x 36”.
- Entries must be painted between July 14th and 19th, 2025
- Entries must be ready to hang, mounted, gallery wrapped, matted, and framed, or otherwise ready for display. FRAMED WORK MUST INCLUDE WIRE OR SIMILAR HANGING SYSTEM. Works will not be accepted with only alligator hardware, D-ring, V-ring, or keyhole hangers under any circumstances. Click here to review the EAC’s framing guidelines.

STAMPING: Beginning Monday, July 14, 2025 - 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
WORKING PERIOD: Monday, July 14, 2025, 10 a.m. to Saturday, July 19, 2025, 1 p.m.
RECEIVING: Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the Eccles Art Center booth at the Ogden Arts Festival (Union Station)
VIEWING: Saturday, July 19th, and Sunday, July 20th at the Ogden Arts Festival
WINNERS WILL BE ON EXHIBIT at the Pioneer Days Cabin at the Spencer Fox Eccles Stadium through Pioneer Days on July 24th.

LIABILITY:
Every reasonable precaution will be taken to protect the work submitted. Unsold work that is left after July 20, 2025, is done at the artist’s own risk, and storage charges may be incurred (with the exception of the winners that are on display through July 24th). Works left at the Center for over 90 days will be deemed abandoned and disposed of at the Board’s discretion. The Eccles Art Center does not accept responsibility for works damaged due to incorrect or poor framing.
SALES:
Sales will be encouraged, but are not required. The Eccles Art Center will retain a 35% commission on sales.

First Place: $500.00
Second Place: $300.00
Third Place: $100.00
Honorable Mention (2): $50.00
Best of Show will be donated to the Weber County R.A.M.P. Commission for display in the commission office with artist recognition.
PICK-UPS:
Works accepted for exhibit and not sold must be picked up on July 1st and 3rd, 2025, between 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

EXHIBIT
All pieces will be on exhibit at the Ogden Arts Festival, located at the Eccles Art Center booth at the Union Station. Awards will be posted on July 20, 2025. The exhibit will be on display from July 19 to 20 at the Ogden Arts Festival. Winners will be on exhibit at the Pioneer Days Cabin at the Spencer Fox Eccles Stadium.
This project has received funding from Weber County RAMP, Ogden City, and is supported by the Utah Arts Council, with funding from the State of Utah and the National Endowment for the Arts.
ENTRY FEES & FORMS
$20.00 entry fee
$5.00 for 2nd entry (after initial entry fee)
*Members with an "Artist Membership" will receive 2nd entry fee.
Entry fees are used for prize money and publicity and are non-refundable.
The artist must identify entries based on title, medium, and price. Identification tags will be provided upon entry.
