
As a member of the Eccles Art Center staff, I would like to give you a New Year challenge/goal to participate in one of the Eccles Art Center’s Competition. We have a diverse, variety of competitions throughout 2022. Information about the competitions will be share on the center’s website and a print “Call for Entry” mailed.
The “Call for Entry” for it Biennial Black & White Competition was mailed in 2021. The dates to receive the artwork for this competition are January 19, 20and 21, 2022 from 9 a.m to 5 p.m. You can review the “Call for Entry” on this website. The Artists reception will be held February 4, 2022 in association with Ogden First Friday Art Stroll from 5 to 8 p.m. Exhibits continues through February 26, 2022.
In March 2022, information about the April “Frame Your Pet” Competition will be available. This exhibit was fun in 2021 with more paintings of dogs then cats. I would think it great if we had some pet birds, lizards, horses and fish to add variety. As it is a Carriage House exhibit all the works must be priced to sell. Juried works exhibit in the Carriage House Gallery during April 2022.
In April, the information about “Women: The Creative Edge” will be published. Women this competition is for you to share your creative work. The exhibit was moved to May for the 2022 year.
In May, the Eccles Art Center will share information about the Downtown Alliance’s Car Show Quick Draw competition and publish the “Call” for the EAC’s “Colors of Pride” Competition. The Color of Pride Competition is open to Utah Resident artists. Works juried in to the “Color of Pride” exhibit will be displayed in June 2022.
June will bring information about the Pioneer Days’ sponsored Traces of the West “Call for Entry” to the Eccles Art Center’s website. Works for this exhibit must be of a western theme. The “Traces of the West” exhibit will be ready to view during July 2022.
July 2022, the EAC staff will post the rules for the center’s 48th Annual Statewide Competition. This is open to resident Utah artists, but is not a themed competition. The visual artist may enter a work of their choice. This exhibit will be on the walls during August 2022, the works from this exhibit are used to inspire the participating floral and interior designers for the “Art in Bloom” competition August 25 through 27, 2022.
We have moved the Plein Air Competition to September 2022 for Late Summer paintings. Watch for the plein air “Call” and stamping dates in August. Exhibit dates: September 2 through 30, 2022.
In October, the EAC staff will publish the particulars with regard to our newest Winter/Holiday Celebration Competition. This will be a Carriage House Competition works must have a price and be for sale. Accepted works will be available to purchase in November 2022.
November 2022 will bring back the “Call for Entry” data for the return of the Abstract and the Petite Impressions Competitions. The petite works must be under 8 inches in any dimension, so think small. The works juried in to the Abstract exhibit will be shown in the Main Gallery during December 2022. The Petite Impressions competition exhibit run two month December 2022 and January 2023.
With this advance knowledge, you should have the inspiration to start creating and accept my challenge of entering a work in one of the Eccles Community Art Center’s competitions. Attainable new year’s goals add spice to our lives. Happy New Year, happy creating! - Debra
