Whether you’re stopping in for a few minutes or planning an afternoon surrounded by art, history, and creativity, the Eccles Art Center offers a unique experience unlike any other in Northern Utah. Housed in a beautifully preserved Victorian mansion built in 1893, the Center combines historic architecture with ever-changing art exhibitions, classes, concerts, and community events.
Here are ten things to know before your visit.
1. Admission Is Always Free
One of the best things about visiting the Eccles Art Center is that admission is completely free. Thanks to the generosity of our members, donors, sponsors, and volunteers, everyone is welcome to experience our galleries and historic home without an admission fee.
2. You’re Visiting a Historic Mansion
The Eccles Art Center isn’t just an art gallery—it’s one of Ogden’s most treasured historic homes. Once the residence of David and Bertha Eccles and their family, the mansion has been preserved for more than a century and remains open to the public as a center for arts and culture. Every room tells part of the building’s remarkable story.
3. Every Visit Is Different
Our exhibitions change monthly, showcasing everything from traditional paintings and sculpture to photography, mixed media, contemporary art, and themed competitions. Because the galleries are constantly changing, no two visits are ever exactly alike.
4. There Are Multiple Galleries to Explore
In addition to the Main Gallery inside the historic mansion, visitors can enjoy exhibitions in the Carriage House Gallery. Together, these spaces allow us to feature a wide variety of artists and artistic styles throughout the year.
5. Please Help Us Protect the Historic Home
Because you’re walking through a historic building filled with original architecture and artwork, we ask guests to help preserve the space. Large bags and backpacks should be left at the reception desk, children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult, and closed doors are reserved for staff and private areas.
6. Local Artists Are the Heart of the Center
The Eccles Art Center proudly supports artists from Ogden, Weber County, throughout Utah, and beyond. Many of the works on display are available for purchase, making it easy to take home an original piece while supporting working artists.
7. There’s More Than Just Art Exhibitions
Throughout the year, the Eccles Art Center hosts hands-on classes, artist demonstrations, wine tastings, lectures, concerts, competitions, family activities, and special events. Be sure to check our calendar before your visit—you may discover something happening that day.
8. You’ll Find Art in Unexpected Places
As you wander through the mansion, don’t forget to look beyond the gallery walls. Original woodwork, stained glass, fireplaces, architectural details, and rotating artwork throughout the building create a unique experience where history and creativity come together.
9. Give Yourself Time to Explore
Many first-time visitors are surprised by how much there is to see. Between multiple galleries, historic rooms, and outdoor spaces, most guests spend anywhere from 30 minutes to well over an hour exploring the Art Center.
10. We Love Welcoming First-Time Visitors
Whether you’re an experienced art enthusiast or simply curious about the beautiful historic building on Jefferson Avenue, everyone is welcome. Our staff and volunteers are happy to answer questions, share the history of the home, and help you discover what’s currently on display.
