2nd Annual Northern Utah High School Art Competition

ELIGIBILITY

The Eccles Art Center Northern Utah High School Art Competition is open to High School Senior Student artists (12th grade) who presently reside in Northern Utah including those in Davis, Morgan, Weber, Cache and Rich Counties.  Original works in any medium including paintings, prints, monoprints, drawings, graphics, pottery, photography, sculptures, jewelry, and textiles are eligible.  Original work is defined as artwork developed from personal expierence, imagination, and direct observation from life, or multiple personal photographs or sketches.  REPRODUCTION PRINTS such as gicleé  and COPY WORK (artwork directly copied from one source) ARE NOT ELIGIBLE.  Work must have been completed within the past two years and not have been previously exhibited in a juried exhibit sponsored by the Eccles Art Center.

Artists are limited to a total of two entries.  Works consisting of multiple parts may be entered as a single work only if each of the parts cannot exist as a complete work by itself.  Multiple parts of a work may not be priced separately. 

Entries must be ready to hang, mounted, matted and framed and otherwise ready for exhibition display. TWO DIMENSIONAL WORK, LARGER THAN 21” x 21” WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED IN CLIP FRAMES.  FRAMED WORK MUST INCLUDE WIRE OR SIMILAR HANGING SYSTEM.  Works will not be accepted with only alligator hardware, D-ring, V-ring or keyhole hangers under any circumstance.

LIABILITY

Every reasonable precaution will be taken to protect work submitted.  All work submitted will be insured through January 2, 2019 while at the Art Center. Work accepted for exhibit will be insured through January  25, 2020.  WORK NOT ACCEPTED FOR EXHIBIT WILL NOT BE INSURED AFTER JANUARY 10; WORK ACCEPTED FOR EXHIBIT WILL NOT BE INSURED AFTER FEBRUARY 1.  Work left at the Art Center after those dates is at artist’s own risk and storage charges may accrue.  Works left at the Center for over 90 days will be deemed abandoned and disposed of at the Board’s discretion.  The Eccles Art Center does not accept responsibility for works damaged due to incorrect or poor framing.


SALES

A price or insurance value must be indicated for all items entered.  Sales will be encouraged and the Eccles Art Center will retain a 30% commission on sales.  Students should work with their teachers to determine a price for their work. Consideration of the cost of the materials including framing, time invested and the center’s commission should be reviewed when determining a price. WORK NOT FOR SALE MUST BE MARKED ‘NFS’  AND A VALUE FOR INSURANCE PURPOSES GIVEN.   


ENTRY FEES & FORMS

$5.00 per entry

Entry fees are used for publicity and are non-refundable.

Entries must be clearly identified by the artist with title, medium and price/insurance value.  Identification tags will be provided at the time of entry.

Self addressed jury result cards are to be filled out at registration  and will be mailed as notification of jury results.


PICK-UPS

Work not accepted must be picked up on or before January 3, 2020 between the hours of  9:00 a.m. & 4:00 p.m.

Works accepted  for exhibit and not sold must be picked up  January 27, 2020 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. & 5:00 p.m.

OPENING RECEPTION & EXHIBIT

A reception for artists, friends and the community will be held on Friday, January 10, 2020 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Art Center.  Awards will be posted at the reception. 

The exhibit will be on display January 10 through 25, 2019

This project has received funding from Weber County RAMP, Ogden City, and is supported by the Utah Arts Council, with funding from the State of Utah and the National Endowment for the arts.

Northern Utah High School Student Competition License and Release

The Eccles Art Center hereby grants tot he undersigned student artist permission to display their paintings or other works of art inthe Eccles Art Center, located at 2580 Jefferson Avenue, Ogden, Utah for the period of January 10 to January 25, 2020. The Eccles Art Center cannot accept responsibility for works damaged due to incorrect or poor framing. The Eccles Art Center will not be responsible for any loss or damage to the Artist's property after December 20, 2019, for work not accepted for exhibit or after January 29, for work accepted for exhibit. The artist does hereby release Eccles Art Center from any and all liability after January 29, 2020 for any work submitted for the 2020 Northern Utah High School Seniors Competition.

I, hereby, acknowledge that a low resolution image of my work may be used in online marketing and sales for the Eccles Art Center.

I, hereby, acknowledge that  artwork left over 90 days at the Eccles Art Center is deemed abandoned and may be sold or disposed of at the board of directors discretion.

The above license and release is required for entry in the the Northern Utah High School Student Competition. You may fill it out online, or in person when you bring your work to the Eccles Art Center. Work is due at the Eccles Art Center no later than Thursday, December 12, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. and will not be accepted after this time. If you choose not to pay online, you may pay at the Eccles Art Center when you drop your work off.
