DRIVING THE SPIKE: Past to Present 1869 to 2019 PLEIN AIR COMPETITION
The Eccles Art Center Driving the Spike: Past to Present 1869 to 2019 will include a plein air and photography competition themed with trains and railroads in the Utah landscape. The Plein Air Competition is open to all regional artists. Original themed works painted between May 28 through June 2, 2019 are eligible. PHOTOGRAPHS ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THE PLEIN AIR COMPETITION. Participating artists will provide their own surfaces which must be stamped before beginning the work. Stamping serves as a contest verification for when the surface is returned. Maximum surface size is 24” x 36”.
Artists are limited to a total of three surfaces/works. Entries must be ready to hang, mounted, matted and framed and otherwise ready in exhibition condition, ready to sell. TWO DIMENSIONAL WORK, LARGER THAN 21” x 21” WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED IN CLIP FRAMES. FRAMED WORK MUST INCLUDE WIRE OR SIMILAR HANGING SYSTEM. Works will not be accepted with only alligator hardware, D-ring, V-ring or keyhole hangers under any circumstance.
The EAC’s Driving the Spike: Past to Present 1869 to 2019 Plein Air Competition boundaries are set to pay tribute to Ogden’s Railroad legacy and history. Artists may paint along the rails from Ogden to Promontory, Utah. Works must pay tribute to the history of Ogden and the Transcontinental Railroad.

We suggest that you register in person when you have your surfaces stamped. Registration and stamping may be accomplished May 28 through 31 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and June 1, from 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM
$25.00 PROFESSIONAL/ ADDITIONAL ENTRIES: $10:00/entry
$15.00 AMATEUR/ADDITIONAL ENTRIES:$5.00/entry
When entering the professional or amateur division, you will pay for one surface entry when you have your surfaces stamped. You may have several surfaces stamped at this time for the fee of one entry. Additional fees will be charged if you decide to turn in more than one surface, up to three surfaces are acceptable. All fees are non-refundable, even if the original surface is unfinished. Entry fees are used for prize money and publicity.

Entries must be clearly identified by the artist with title, medium, minimum and premium price. Identification tags will be provided upon receiving the finished surfaces. Only those works that are properly registered and stamped will be accepted for the competition/exhibit.
Every reasonable precaution will be taken to protect work submitted. Work left at the Art Center after July 3, 2019 is left at artist’s own risk and storage charges may accrue. Works left at the Center for over 90 days will be deemed abandoned and disposed of at the Board’s discretion. The Eccles Community Art Center does not accept responsibility for works damaged due to incorrect or poor framing.
Accepted works entered in the Plein Air Competition will be exhibited and offered for sale. A Plein Air Silent Auction will be established. Artists will indicate a minimum price for which they are willing to sell their work, an immediate sale/premium price (Buy It Now) will also be established. During the auction, art enthusiasts may bid on the freshly created plein air masterpieces beginning at the artist’s minimum price. Sales will be encouraged and the Eccles Art Center will retain a 35% commission on sales.
Works accepted for exhibit and not sold must be picked up July 3, 2019 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. & 5:00 p.m.

OPENING RECEPTION, EXHIBIT & AUCTION
A reception for artists, friends and the community will be held on Friday, June7, 2019 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Art Center. Awards will be posted at the reception.
The exhibit and auction will continue through June 29, 2019.

Driving the Spike Past to Present 1869 to 2019 Themed
This photographic Competition will be themed on trains, tracks and the buildings of Ogden and Promontory, Utah that were built due to the influence of the Transcontinental Railroad and modern railed transportation.
Open to all photographic artists who presently reside in the state of Utah.
Participants are limited to a total of two entries. All prints must be themed original, completed within the last year, and not have previously been exhibited in a juried exhibit sponsored by the Eccles Art Center.
All prints must be framed, fully assembled, including wire for hanging, and ready for exhibition display. PHOTOS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED IN CLIP FRAMES. Works will not be accepted with only alligator hardware, D-ring, V-ring or keyhole hangers under any circumstance.
The jurors or the Art Center may refuse works which are not suitable for exhibition in the Gallery because of size or liability.
Work selected for the exhibition must remain for the duration of the show. No changes will be allowed.
The submission of entries gives the Eccles Art Center the right to reproduce work for publicity and educational purposes.
The entry fee for Eccles Art Center members in good standing is $5.00 per entry. Non-members may enter at $10.00 per entry. Entry fees are not refundable and are placed toward the presentation of monetary awards.

Entries must be clearly identified with photographer's name, title of work, and either price or insurance value. Work not for sale must be marked "NFS" on entry forms with a value for insurance purposes given.
Tags will be provided for identification at time of entry. Self-addressed jury results cards, filled out by the entrant at registration, will be mailed as notification of jury results.
Work not exhibited must be picked up by June 3, 2019, during the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
Work included in the exhibit will be on display June 3, through 29, 2019. Work from the exhibit must be picked up by July 3, 2019 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Awards and cash recognition for the Driving the Spike Past To Present 1869 to 2019 Photography Competition will be posted Friday, June 7, 2019, at 5:00 p.m., followed by a reception for all the photographers, friends, EAC patrons and members of the community until 8 p.m. in association with Ogden’s Art Stroll.
