PLEIN AIR COMPETITION

Call for Entry 2018

Eligibility
The Eccles Community Art Center Plein Air Competition is open to all regional artists. Original works painted between May 22 through 29, 2018 are eligible. PHOTOGRAPHS ARE NOT ELIGIBLE. Participating artists will provide their own surfaces which must be stamped before beginning the work. Stamping serves as a contest verification for when the surface is returned. Maximum surface size is 24” x 36”.

Artists are limited to a total of three surfaces/works. Entries must be ready to hang, mounted, matted and framed and otherwise ready in exhibition condition, ready to sell. TWO DIMENSIONAL WORK, LARGER THAN 21” x 21” WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED IN CLIP FRAMES. FRAMED WORK MUST INCLUDE WIRE OR SIMILAR HANGING SYSTEM. Works will not be accepted with only alligator hardware, D-ring, Vring or keyhole hangers under any circumstance.

Boundaries
The ECAC’s Plein Air Competition boundaries are set to capture the historic architecture of Ogden and the natural beauty of Weber County. Artists may paint anywhere within Weber County. Subject of works may be outside the boundaries of Weber County as long as the artist paint from within the County boundaries.

Working Period
May 22 , 2018 9:00 a.m. through May 29, 2018 4:00 p.m

Registration & Stamping
We suggest that you register in person when you have your surfaces stamped. Registration and stamping may be accomplished May 21 through 25, 2018 from 9 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Fees
$25.00 PROFESSIONAL/ ADDITIONAL ENTRIES: $10:00/entry
$15.00 AMATEUR/ADDITIONAL ENTRIES:$5.00/entry

When entering the professional or amateur division, you will pay for one surface entry when you have your surfaces stamped. You may have several surfaces stamped at this time for the fee of one entry. Additional fees will be charged if you decide to turn in more than one surface, up to three surfaces are acceptable. All fees are nonrefundable, even if the original surface is unfinished. Entry fees are used for prize money and publicity.y.

Receiving
Tuesday, May 29, 2018 9 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Work will not be accepted after 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29, 2018.

Entries must be clearly identified by the artist with title, medium, minimum and premium price. Identification tags will be provided upon receiving the finished surfaces. Only those works that are properly registered and stamped will be accepted for the competition/ exhibit

Liability
Every reasonable precaution will be taken to protect work submitted. All work submitted will be insured through July 2, 2018 while at the Art Center. WORK ACCEPTED FOR EXHIBIT WILL NOT BE INSURED AFTER JULY 2. Work left at the Art Center after this dates is at artist’s own risk and storage charges may accrue. Works left at the Center for over 90 days will be deemed abandoned and disposed of at the Board’s discretion. The Eccles Community Art Center does not accept responsibility for works damaged due to incorrect or poor framing.

Sales
Accepted works entered in the Plein Air Competition will be exhibited and offered for sale. A Plein Air Silent Auction will be established. Artists will indicate a minimum price for which they are willing to sell their work, an immediate sale/premium price (Buy It Now) will also be established. During the auction, art enthusiasts may bid on the freshly created plein air masterpieces beginning at the artist’s minimum price. Sales will be encouraged and the Eccles Community Art Center will retain a 35% commission on sales.

Pick-Ups
Works accepted for exhibit and not sold must be picked up July 2, 2018 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. & 5:00 p.m. See LIABILITY section for insurance restrictions and storage charge notice.

Opening Reception, Exhibit & Auction
A reception for artists, friends and the community will be held on Friday, June 1, 2018 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Art Center. Awards will be posted at the reception. The exhibit and auction will continue through June 30, 2018.

This project has received funding from Weber County RAMP, Ogden City, and is supported by the Utah Arts Council, with funding from the State of Utah and the National Endowment for the arts.


Quick Draw Competition

In association with the Ogden Arts Festival

June 9 & 10, 2018

Eligibility
The Eccles Community Art Center Plein Air Quick Draw Competition is open to all regional artists. The Quick Draw Competition will take place on Saturday, June 9, 2018 during the Ogden Arts Festival. Original works painted on June 9, 2018 between 8:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. are eligible. Artists may enter more than one surface. Multiple surfaces may be stamped. Only surfaces registered are eligible for the competition and silent auction.

Entries must be ready to hang, mounted, matted and framed and otherwise ready in exhibition condition, ready to sell. TWO DIMENSIONAL WORK, LARGER THAN 21” x 21” WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED IN CLIP FRAMES. FRAMED WORK MUST INCLUDE WIRE OR SIMILAR HANGING SYSTEM. Works will not be accepted with only alligator hardware, D-ring, V-ring or keyhole hangers under any circumstance.

Boundaries
Artists will paint in the vicinity of the festival and the Eccles Community Art Center (Jefferson to Wall between 24th and 26th Street). 

Working Period
June 9, 2018 8:00 to 1:30 p.m.

Registration & Stamping
Registration and Stamping will occur at the Eccles Community Art Center beginning at 8:00 a.m.  Stamping will close at  noon.

Participating artists will provide their own surfaces which must be stamped before beginning the work.  Stamping serves as a contest verification for when the surface is returned.  Maximum surface size is 24” x 36”. Works must be framed and wired for hanging in exhibit condition, ready to sell.

Participants will be informed at time of registration of the location for turning in paintings.

Fees
FEES: $25.00 | ADDITIONAL ENTRIES: $10.00/ entry

Participants may have multiple surfaces stamped at the time of registration for the fee of one entry. Additional fees will be charges if you decide to turn in more than one surface. All fees are non-refundable, even if the original surface is unfinished. Entry fees are used for prize money and publicity.

Painting Turn In
Location will be announced at time of registration.  By no later than 2:00 p.m. all submissions will be turned in for exhibit at the Ogden Arts Festival (if inclement weather occurs, the work will be turned in and exhibit at the Eccles Community Art Center, 2580 Jefferson avenue, Ogden).  Works must be framed and ready to hang with a wire in exhibition condition; ready to sell. Works will be judged.  A silent auction will begin as works are placed on exhibit.

Sales
All work accepted for the Quick Draw Competition  will be exhibited and offered for sale in a silent auction.  Artists will establish a minimum price for which they are willing to sell their work (s), an immediate sale/premium price (Buy it now)  will also be established.  Art enthusiasts and collectors may bid on the freshly painted masterpieces beginning at the artist’s minimum price.  Sales will be encouraged and the Eccles Community Art Center will retain a 35% commission on sales.

Second Place: $350
Third Place: $250

Awards may be picked up after the auction closes or June 11th at the Eccles Community Art Center. The silent auction closes at 5:00 p.m.

Pick Up
Works accepted for exhibit and not sold must be picked up when the auction closes.

Those purchasing silent auction items may also pick up the pieces at this time.


The Eccles Community Art Center is pleased to be continuing a Plein Air and Quick Draw Competitions started by Ogden Arts Festival. Sponsor, Heather Hess Lindquist will share her original framed works of past Ogden Art Festival Plein Air Competition purchase award winners. They will be on display at the Eccles Community Art Center June 1 through 30, 2017.

The ECAC’s Executive Director, Board of Directors and Staff are excited and are making plans to work with other non-profit organizations to bring additional opportunities for artists and art enthusiast to participate in plein air activities. Discussions are in the process for plein air paint -outs for the 2018 Plein Air Competition.
